October Happenings 2010 102Multicultural United Soccer Club has three levels of soccer play:

Intramural: Our younger ages (8 and under) play on small-sided “in-house” teams. Emphasis is on fun while kids learn positions and develop skills. Coaches give players equal playing time during matches.

Recreational (or Rec): Our recreational teams provide youth ages 9 to 14 the opportunity to have fun, learn skills and develop their love of the game. Youth play on coed teams that compete with nearby teams in the DelCo Co-ed Intramural Soccer league. Emphasis is on team growth and camaraderie while engaging in healthy competition. Players play at least one half of each match. Travel team and High School players are not eligible for this level.

Travel: Our travel teams provide youth the opportunity for a fun but highly competitive soccer experience. A high level of commitment is required from players and their parents (commitments of time, effort and financial cost). Emphasis is on team development and challenging match competition. Players’ positions and playing time during matches is left to the coaches’ discretion. Tryouts are mandatory; coaches select who plays at this level.

ALL LEVELS promote good sportsmanship and fun! (Read about What We Value – and the MUSC virtues of good character, respect and excellence – here.)

Youth Coaches & Refs Program: For ages 13 to 19, our Youth Coaches and Refs Program develops leadership skills among teens, teaches them a practical skill, and encourages them to give back to the community. Teens can serve as Coach Assistants or Referees. Training is provided; strong reliability and regular commitment in summer and/or fall are required. (Refs receive some compensation.) If you have interest, please contact our Manager, Scott Bryant (scott@muscsoccer.org, (215) 565-5384).

Volunteers: Multicultural United Soccer Club is volunteer-run and always looking for quality volunteers to help out in a variety of ways. All parents of players are asked to fill at least one role to make our club run well. Other volunteers are invited to be a part, too! All volunteers ages 17 and older who work directly with children will need to complete background clearances as required by law; but MUSC is ready to help with that! Contact Jacob Collins at jacob@muscsoccer.org to play a part in the great effort that makes MUSC possible!
